Submersible pumps are installed within a rainwater storage tank, but most require a pump controller that cannot be submerged or flooded. Surface pumps are typically installed within a nearby building or pump enclosure.
Requirements for a pump/household water system:
Pipework designed to specifications (refer to pump performance curves)
High efficiency in internal pump design
Consistent use of high-quality, corrosive-resistant materials throughout high-quality bearings, ease of maintenance
Operation without diaphragm pressure vessels by use of alternative pressure system controls
Quiet-running, low-noise (multiple-stage pumps) and sound insulated with flexible connections to the pipework
Proper installation of the pump with “run dry” protection
No large pressure tanks filled with water to the exclusion of oxygen
Low suction height for suction pumps and a short, airtight, suction feed pipe
